... stamp my feet in the sand
let it cake
that they may say
he never went away ...
Here, you can virtually part the curtain for a sneak peak at what Jidé is up to artistically, including his thoughts and creations related to the idea that citizenship is belonging, and belonging is the spirit bestowed on a place by its dwellers. Hold on to that truth, and you soon perceive the nexus between state and society, between politics and culture, between structure and ether.

Jidé PRESENTS: SEHNSUCHT

Sehnsucht is German for longing. I love photographing the human condition, and yes, I believe it can be done, I believe it is done everyday. Moments that tell many truths can be captured and frozen, told and retold. They are the many gifts of the muse, ever in abundance, and ever fleeting. In this photographic compilation of longing, everything occurs in airports, those manufactured spaces of persistent transience.

001: The Distance

The Distance speaks to what lies beyond, what must be traversed, what can be imagined. It is always today in a photograph, and today, she stands looking into the distance. Tomorrow, she will be within it.

002: The Blank Enfolding

Travel is very often a communal experience, with many heading in the same direction for a multiplicity of singular reasons. Is it that singularity, in the midst of an experience collectively undertaken, that makes for the many silences? Travel is a very communal experience, yet often, it speaks to a blank enfolding. We are together, yet so far apart.

003: Discovery

Stoicism is a by-product of age. In a world set as much aright as possible, the young are never stoic. The incrementally old, however, can be stoic even in the face of discovery. We learn to tame wonder as we ourselves are tamed by time.
